Write it all down

Never underestimate the power of the written word. Especially when you’re writing down what is making you stressed and anxious. Perhaps it’s a deadline at work, a social event that you have coming up, or there simply not being enough hours in the day. Whatever the reason(s) may be, when you write them down, you’ll feel more in control, you’ll find it easier to dismantle the issues you’re having and find solutions, and you’ll be able to focus your thoughts on more positive things. Invest in a small journal where you can write all these things down and use it as often as you need to.

Chew gum

When we chew we increase the flow of blood to our brains which can help to relieve stress and anxiety. Simply put, chewing a stick of gum is a great distraction and you’ll find the stress relief almost instant. Keep some with you and try it next time you’re feeling a little overwhelmed.

Try watching something funny online or think of a memory that always raises a smile. 

Say No

Having the strength and confidence to say no to people is no easy task. Sadly, we often value the opinions of others over our own mental health. But, if you want to take control of your stress levels then you need to let go. Learning to say no allows you to maintain control of certain aspects of your life and therefore reduce your stress. Whether it’s more work in your in-tray, being asked to help out at the school fete or attending a social event, if you find yourself being forced to take on more than you can handle then don’t be afraid to politely decline.
