Why You Should Quit Smoking

Smoking can negatively affect your life in many ways. It can affect your health, your social life, your mental capacity, and in other ways either directly or indirectly. Smoking not only affects you, but it affects other people around you. Perhaps you have tried to quit smoking in the past, but have not succeeded. Do not give up. There are solutions and support out there if you know where to look.

One of the hardest things about quitting smoking is the trying to suppress that addiction to nicotine. Nicotine is a powerful substance. It affects the brain in a way that makes it more and more dependent on this substance. When your body gets used to a certain level of nicotine and suddenly it does not get enough of it, you experience withdrawal symptoms.

People have used patches and nicotine gum in order to give themselves a dose of nicotine just to satisfy their craving. This method worked for some people, but for others, it has not. The patches can sometimes irritate a person’s skin, so that is not an ideal solution.

What about the motor functions that come with smoking? Heavy smokers are accustomed to holding a cigarette in hand, taking a puff, and blowing out smoke. Sometimes that is part of what gives them the satisfaction from smoking.

There is the option of e-cigarettes. This is becoming a popular option for people who have tried all sorts of ways to quit smoking, but could not. E-cigs operation on 10ml e liquid vaper, not smoke. So, nothing is burned off to pollute the lungs or the air. There is no odor to electronic cigarettes. The shape is similar to a regular cigarette so the smoker can go through the same motions as if he was smoking a regular cigarette.

E-cigs deliver vapor through the use of flavor cartridges. The cartridges are available in varying levels of nicotine. For someone who is trying to quit smoking, he would start with a cartridge that has just enough nicotine to satisfy his cravings, then taper off by moving on cartridges with just a little less each time. The body will get accustomed to relying on less and less nicotine. It just takes time for that adjustment to happen.

This method of quitting has the advantage in that it allows the smoker to stick to his routines. People are creatures of habit. If a smoker has been smoking a cigarette every night after dinner for the past 20 years, suddenly not doing that would cause a disruption to his routine. It may lead to a level of stress that comes from not doing something that he has been doing for the last 20 years. This stress can be avoided if he replaces his regular cigarettes with e-cigs.

The ultimate goal is to quit smoking by using a method that is not stressful, yet effective. E-cigs have the potential to do that without causing the smoker undue stress. The key is to have him stick to the plan until he no longer depends on the substance.
